Soils in the top 15 issues twice for 2011

Some things to think about when we are questioning why soil science is truly important. This article talks about the top 15 issues for 2011. Soil ecology and the invasion of exotic earthworms into forest soils are in that top 15.

  1. If you really think about this a soil scientist or some member of the tri-societies will likely be involved in solving these issues
    Milk - waste management
    GHG - carbon sequestration
    Mining - erosion and water issues
    Acid rain - impacts soils and plants
    Soil ecology - check
    Biodiversity - soils are always a part of saving habitats
    Climate change - we have members working on this very closely
    Vegetation changes - check
    Hydraulic fracturing - Very important part of natural resource extraction and soil scientist are assisting in this
